Abstract
Giuseppe Alessi was born in San Cataldo (Caltanissetta) on 28 October 1905. After earning a law degree, he began his career as a lawyer. He is remembered not only for having served as a senator of the Italian Republic (1963–1968) and as a member of the Chamber of Deputies (1968–1972), but above all for being the first President of the Sicilian Region, holding office from 1947 to 1949 and again from 1955 to 1956. He also served as President of the Sicilian Regional Assembly (ARS) from 1956 to 1959. He died in Palermo at the age of 103, on 13 July 2009.
