Offered Services

UniPa Digital Library hosts digital objects from the bibliographic collections and archival heritage of the University: ancient and rare books (manuscripts and printed), archival material, periodicals, maps, photographs, and more, aiming to become the single access point for all types of hosted material.
The digitization of library and archival assets—entirely carried out at the premises of the University Libraries and Historical Archive—follows the guidelines of the National Digitization Plan (PND) and also involves, in the reprocessing phase, digital items created within previous projects or activities.

Thanks to the IIIF protocol and the Mirador application, it is possible to compare multiple digital objects, download the desired image, and perform searches on printed text terms using OCR.

All services and activities of UniPa Digital Library are promoted and managed by the Special Service Library System and Historical Archive of the University, in particular:

  • digitization, metadata creation, and item upload;
  • management and organization of uploaded collections;
  • virtual paths/exhibitions of interest;
  • support for structures and/or individuals interested in defining new projects.

and, among back-office activities:

  • continuous training of staff assigned to the project;
  • supervision of the work carried out by staff;
  • data cleaning;
  • checking the conformity of usage licenses with copyright standards.
