Abstract
Evocative landscapes, poetic atmospheres and sudden expressive contrasts characterize Emmanuel Chabrier's *Dix pièces pittoresques*, a collection of ten pieces for solo piano composed between 1880 and 1881. Through suggestive titles such as *Paysage*, *Mélancolie*, *Sous-bois* and *Scherzo-valse*, the composer explores a wide range of musical characters, favouring the evocation of moods over literal description. Harmonic originality, rhythmic vitality and a distinctive approach to piano sonority reveal a musical language that, while rooted in the Romantic tradition, anticipates certain developments in early twentieth-century French music, particularly in the work of Debussy and Ravel. Four pieces from the collection were subsequently incorporated into the orchestral *Suite pastorale*. The 1927 Enoch edition held in the Fondo Rognoni documents the publication history and reception of a significant work in the transformation of European musical sensibilities at the turn of the twentieth century
