Abstract
Aron Anisfeld was born on 2 July 1908 in Nowy Sącz (then part of the Austro‑Hungarian Empire) to the Jewish merchant Moses and Mariem Itte Rosenfeld, daughter of the merchant Beniamino Rosenfeld. Orphaned of both parents by 1937, he lived in Turin, where he attended the final two years of the Faculty of Pharmacy (academic years 1934–35 and 1935–36), graduating in Chemistry and Pharmacy on 9 July 1936. In the same year, he presented himself at the Royal University of Rome to take the qualifying examination for the profession of pharmacist (1936 session), but was declared unsuitable. He moved to Palermo in 1937 and obtained the long‑awaited qualification on 5 March 1938. Shortly afterwards, on 10 April, Anisfeld wrote from Florence stressing the urgency of receiving the examination diploma in order to be admitted to the Officer Cadet course, which had already begun on 1 April. It is known that he survived the Holocaust, married Estelle Klarfeld (Warsaw, 27 October 1911 – London, 6 March 1995), and died in London on 23 October 1983.
